A-I Didn't Build Wayli Alone
AI helped me learn faster, but it never replaced the thinking behind the project.
When people hear that Wayli was built with AI, it's easy to imagine the technology sitting in the driver's seat.
That wasn't how it happened.
I wanted to learn software development by solving real problems.
The first tools were simple financial calculators, and each one taught me something new.
AI helped me move faster.
More importantly, it helped me explore ideas I might never have reached on my own.
What changed
AI made it possible to go much deeper.
It explained concepts I didn't understand.
It suggested approaches I wouldn't have considered.
Because you don't know what you don't know.
But something else became obvious quite early.
AI could produce answers that sounded convincing and still be completely wrong.
In fact, mistakes in AI-generated financial calculations were one of the reasons Wayli existed at all.
I wanted to build tools where the calculations could be verified and the reasoning could be inspected.
That led to See the Maths, a feature that showed exactly how every result had been calculated instead of asking people to simply trust the answer.
AI also pointed out plenty of my own mistakes along the way.
That was when I realised how valuable the partnership could become.
Sometimes AI produced code that worked first time.
Sometimes it confidently headed in the wrong direction.
So did I.
Either way, every conversation became another opportunity to question, test and learn.
Why it mattered
Looking back, Wayli was never really an AI product.
It became a product built with AI.
The ideas behind it didn't come from asking AI what to build.
They emerged through conversations, experiments and changing our minds.
AI accelerated the journey.
It never decided the destination.
That same way of thinking eventually shaped the rest of the platform.
Rather than hiding the calculations, Wayli increasingly exposed them, making it possible to inspect both the numbers and the reasoning behind every important decision.
What I learned
The more I used AI to challenge my thinking instead of replacing it, the more valuable it became.
Curiosity turned out to be far more useful than convenience.
